We are moving toward a community hub model. Through this project, we are examining the experiences of the Memramcook-Tantramar Community Task Force, and identifying community resources and needs, to strengthen and empower community organizations and inform our hub development.

 

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Community Developer/Researcher will work as a part of the Sackville Commons team to research and document the history and work of the Memramcook-Tantramar Community Task Force, which was our community-wide mobilization in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020-2022. This work will involve research, community conversations and interviews, collation of information, and summary findings.

The goal of this position is to determine what our community and our organization did and learned during the pandemic, to inform and strengthen ourselves going forward.

The successful candidate is a dynamic individual, passionate about community health, equity, and social justice, skilled in community conversations and data collection, knowledgeable about the Tantramar region, who will represent well the Sackville Commons presence and programming.

This is a hybrid position; you will work from home and out in the community, and will also work with staff and volunteers at the Sackville Commons. You will report to the Administrative Coordinator, who runs the day-to-day operations, and will also meet regularly with an Advisory Group overseeing this project. Our team is small but dedicated, with one staff person and a working Board of Directors. We come from varied backgrounds and work in the community across the arts, business, food security, housing security, and mental health sectors. Each member brings a unique perspective, and you will, too.

WORK ACTIVITIES

The Community Developer/Researcher will work closely with the Administrative Coordinator and Advisory Group, along with other community partners, members, and volunteers: 

  1. Identifying and connecting with community partners and organizations across the Tantramar region.

  2. Performing research-related activities, including interviews, surveys creation and dissemination, community mapping, analyzing existing quantitative and qualitative data related to the Memramcook-Tantramar Community Task Force programs and projects. Research-related activities will be performed through an equity lens, with particular attention paid to inclusivity, differing abilities, and socio-economic status.

  3. Community-based participatory facilitation, ensuring research is guided by those with lived and living expertise; including co-creating research design, implementation, analysis and dissemination through an Advisory Committee made up of community stakeholders.

  4. Attending in-house research and best practices workshops and consultations.

  5. Attending all staff, Advisory Committee, and community meetings.

  6. Preparing project plans, scheduling meetings, maintaining a timeline of activities, and reporting progress on a monthly basis.

  7. Preparing and writing a final report that includes a full history of the Task Force, continuing and current projects, and a full summary of gaps and opportunities in community services.

·      Strong desire and ability to communicate and work with volunteers or members of all ages, and with racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and gender diverse communities.

·      Demonstrated research, writing, and oral communication skills.

·      Desire to learn about and be open to the unique issues community members may be facing.

·      Willingness to learn new skills for the position.

·      Flexibility to meet emerging project needs.

·      Interested in learning how to develop new community programs and projects that address systemic injustice and new visions for the future.

·      Desire to work with others to make a difference in the community, to be a changemaker.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a contract position for 38-weeks, at 30 hours/week starting September 1st, for $34,000, paid bi-weekly. You will use your own computer, and cover all of your own expenses including your own transportation through the Tantramar region.
